Watching a reluctant reader find a love of reading is heartwarming. New worlds open and confidence builds.
Our homeschooling year began with a voice timidly reading. It will conclude in a few weeks with the stories of Thornton W. Burgess filling the air. We never would have encountered this author had it not been for Charlotte Mason and the Ambleside Online Curriculum having “The Burgess Bird Book for Children” on our reading list.
We loved the “Burgess Bird Book for Children” so when I found an old copy of “The Adventures of Buster Bear” at a used book store, it was like we had just struck it rich. We were miners from the days of old and had found gold. Yes, I did a happy dance in the middle of the store!
Excitedly we rushed home and the reading began. The book was completed in two days and I started a quest to find more books by Burgess.
Fortunately, there are plenty and even better many are free online.
As you will see below, many of the books are free on Kindle. However, sometimes it is easier for us to read the story online. We have just started our journey reading with Burgess, so these links will help us as we transition through the books. I hope they are beneficial to you also!
