Homeschool Schedule: Week of Feb. 18th

Green Belt-Test Time!

It came…it went.

What do these two things have in common? They are highlights of our homeschool week!

Weekly Homeschool Schedule Feb. 18th

Green Belt-Test Time!

After weeks of practice, practice and more practice Taekwondo Gal (name changed to reflect most intense interest) earned her fourth belt stripe. The earning of this stripe entitled her to participate in the next Taekwondo belt test-green belt.

It feels like only yesterday she was waltzing around with a white belt.

Test results will be given this week. Regardless of the outcome, she is having a blast learning the forms and her instructor is outstanding! Every child is a success-just for having the courage to not give up.

It came…it went.

I confess, we had a countdown of the approaching Asteroid 2012 DA14.

Asteroid Gal (many interests this week) surrounded herself with astronomy books, a globe and planet pictures to get ready for the event. Please let me state for the record I did not request any of these materials, she was excited to watch NASA TV and wanted to get in the moment.

Shouts of 5,4,3,2,1 then 1,2,3… filled the air as Asteroid 2012 DA14 traveled toward and then safely away from Earth. We had a wonderful discussion about asteroids/meteorites, observatories and Australia.

The Week Ahead

For Presidents’ Day we are going to go on a virtual tour of the Mount Vernon Mansion, investigate the Lansdowne portrait of George Washington and conclude our study of George Washington.

I’m excited that the William Tell overture is part of our composer study this week, in the resource links you might see how I perhaps went a wee’ bit crazy.

Our poem of the week will be The Ad-Dressing of Cats by T.S. Eliot. We will be reading the full poem then watching the video clip from CATS. I wonder if she’ll notice the parts that are omitted? Hmm, only time will tell.

Ambleside Online is our primary curriculum, we are currently in week 26.
