Striving for simple sanity is difficult as voices call you from all directions. It seems impossible as dishes pile higher and obligations mount.
Another project due, another meeting to attend, another event to schedule.
Stop.
It’s time to breathe.
But how? The voices grow louder, the dishes pile even higher and the calender is overbooked.
It’s not a case of how, but must.
Sanity must be maintained.
Give yourself a timeout if needed. Actually, it can be quite fun. Run into the middle of a room. Shout the words “TIMEOUT” and watch the reactions. Next, smile and say, “Time Out for ME!”. Be dramatic-grab a chair, place it in the corner and sit down with much fanfare.
Grant yourself five minutes. It’s merely five minutes, the world will still continue to rotate as you breathe. Honestly, chaos will not erupt instantaneously. Everyone around you is too stunned. They are waiting for your next move.
Smile. Smiles keep ’em guessing.
It’s time to delegate authority. Sanity must be restored. Chaos eliminated.
Learning opportunities are robust as you give each spectator a chance to own a piece of responsibility. They might mangle it, misuse it and misplace it-but allow them the opportunity to own it. You delegate, they own.
Move back into your world. Sanity awaits as you purge your calender of unnecessary wants and replace it with necessary needs. Make relationships a priority. Seek counsel. Share chocolate with a friend.
Striving for sanity should not be pursued alone. Call upon the One who Restores. Allow Him to heal your heart as you seek each day anew.
Pursue peace, pursue sanity.
At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me.
Daniel 4:36 ESV
How do you pursue sanity?
